Chasing Dawn

Chasing Dawn is a narrative-driven zine that explores themes of restriction, identity, and personal freedom through visual storytelling. The main challenge was communicating complex and emotionally sensitive experiences in a way that remained engaging, approachable, and accessible to readers. Rather than relying on direct or heavy-handed imagery, the project uses humor, playful illustrations, and hand-drawn typography to create an inviting entry point into difficult subjects.
The visual system combines childlike illustrations, expressive lettering, and carefully selected colors and textures to balance lightness with deeper emotional themes. Transparent pages were incorporated as a storytelling device, allowing imagery and content to overlap and interact across spreads, reinforcing ideas of limitation, transition, and possibility. Through a combination of editorial design, illustration, and motion elements, the project transforms personal experiences into a layered narrative that encourages reflection while maintaining a sense of hope and resilience.
