Chasing Dawn

Chasing Dawn is a narrative-driven zine that explores themes of restriction, identity, and personal freedom through visual storytelling. The project involved developing the character of Dawn and building the visual narrative around her experiences and journey. To communicate complex and emotionally sensitive subjects in an engaging and approachable way, the zine uses humor, playful illustrations, and hand-drawn typography as an inviting entry point into difficult themes.
The visual system combines childlike illustrations, expressive lettering, and carefully selected colors and textures to balance lightness with deeper emotional themes. Transparent pages were incorporated as a storytelling device, allowing imagery and content to overlap and interact across spreads, reinforcing ideas of limitation, transition, and possibility. Through a combination of editorial design, illustration, and motion elements, the project transforms personal experiences into a layered narrative that encourages reflection while maintaining a sense of hope and resilience.
